With the switch-ups- we are doing well-
We have switched grammar curriculums from First Language Lessons to Language Lessons a la Sandi Queen. What I find funny is that I sadly ordered wrong books for the girls- I ordered m2 one that was more of a 1st grade level and for m1, let's call it more 4th grade material. Both were frustrated and I knew I'd made a mistake so I saved those for year(s) to come and now they are loving grammar- I continue to love how Language Lessons slowly and subtly submerges their minds to enjoy grammar and really all things beautiful. Just today they listened to poetry and illustrated a drawing followed by some copywork. Because the work is so "easy" I generally ask them to do an exercise or 3 per day, depending.....
Math- holy cow! A whole new world- They are loving math- its currently really easy for my mild Mary (M1) and initially I was thinking- "This just isn't challenging her at all" and while that might be true, I'm thankful to let her experience triumph in this subject- to let her know she can and does enjoy math when it clicks for her.
Middle Mary on the other hand once said (while "creating an Easy-Bake masterpiece" and eating more than making....) "Mom, I can't help about touching so much. Touching is my best thing." Truer words were never spoken. She loves the blocks with Math-U-See and is adjusting well but I'm noticing a shift- typically I think kindergarteners begin in primer but we jumped into Alpha because I think she's ready. She's having to table some of her previous skills to focus on new ones but she's thriving and loves that we get to watch TV for some of our math lessons.
Workboxes continue to revolutionize our world. There are no more complaints and questions about "how much more school we have to do" and partly that may be due to the treats I sneak into some of the workboxes throughout the day, but all in all, I'm psyched.
Praise God for new curriculum and the freedom and opportunity to switch mid year! Its like a whole new school experience!
fun! love that you sneak treats. so you!!!
